A Family Affair
Ned and Marge Smith had the idea to build an Inn back in the early 70's. They took numerous trip to New England, visiting the old classic Inns of that region. They learned quickly what they did and didnt want. They wanted charm, antiques, casual comfort, hospitality and the feeling of community these Inns had, but they didnt want ancient plumbing and electrical, dinky rooms, squeaky floors and bathrooms down the hall.

So, they decided to build a new old Inn, filled with antiques, handmade stitcheries and quilts, local art, fireplaces and balconies, great views and great hospitality. They hired one of their sons, Doug, who was a local builder to construct the Inn. They hired another son, Jim, to do the stone work the Inn is known for. And the women of the family, Marge, daughter Kate and grandmother Nummy decorated the rooms. The Inn was opened in August of 1975. Ned and Marge ran the Inn themselves for seven years before turning it over to their son, Jim. Jim has run it ever since and is hoping his children, the third generation will be interested soon.
Jim and Lorinda Smith enjoy great food, great wine, traveling and a variety of sports. They are both avid cyclists. While Jim swims laps in the Inns pool, Lorinda is out jogging the back roads close by. While Mike helps out the Inn with Web site construction and design, Kelly is already helping Grandma Marge with decorating the rooms. It is truly a family affair!
